Police Open Fire After Responding to Report of Shooting in Pico-Union

Los Angeles police opened fire after arriving at the scene of a shooting in progress early Monday morning in the Pico-Union neighborhood, an LAPD spokesman said.

Officers responded shortly after 1 a.m. to a report of shots fired near the intersection of 11th Street and Union Avenue, according to Capt. Jeff Bert of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police arrived at the scene and “saw what they believed to be a shooting in progress and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the captain said.
One officer opened fire, the LAPD said, adding that no one was struck by gunfire. Authorities did not say how many times the officer’s weapon was discharged.
Three people were taken into custody and a six-block perimeter was set up. Police were conducting a search for a person and possible weapon involved in the initial shooting, Bert said.
A section of Olympic Boulevard near the scene remained closed as of 4 a.m.
